HyperOS 3.1 finally brings a ‘Stacked’ Recent Apps layout option

HyperOS 3.1 beta program is live in China, and the first change it has brought to Xiaomi devices is the stacked Recent Apps Menu layout option. Phone users have been waiting for this feature since last year, and it is finally coming on board.

Xiaomi was in the news for adopting iOS 26-like UI changes with Android 16-based HyperOS 3 upgrade. While it has introduced new themes as well as customization, it didn’t bring a new Recent Apps Menu layout as promised earlier.

But it seems the company has now launched the long-awaited Stacked Recent Apps Menu layout with the HyperOS 3.1 upgrade. Now it has a new feel and provides a better user experience.

Stacked refers to the pile option. Unlike the old 2-column grid layouts that cluttered the screen with 4-6 tiny thumbnails, the Stacked or the piled-up layout shows all the app windows overlapping each other, making the UI look cleaner.

Moreover, the large application cards in the stacked layout become easier to grab and dismiss just via a thumb swipe. As a result, it solves one of the major pain points for users carrying a larger smartphone like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

At the same time, HyperOS 3.1 has also added the Live Updates feature of Android 16 to the Super Island. It supports both the system and third-party apps. One can track taxi-hailing services, control music apps, and do much more with the Super Island feature.
