While HyperOS 3.1 has yet to enter the stable phase, a new piece of info is here suggesting that Xiaomi’s next major software upgrade – HyperOS 4.0 will likely debut in August this year as the most stable firmware version in the company’s history!
That’s a really big statement.
XiaomiTime dived into the code architecture of HyperOS 3.1 and found that the company has started gradually reducing the use of legacy code in its software system.
What is legacy code infrastructure? Legacy code often refers to the aging codebase that still runs on the major operating systems. Although it is difficult to maintain, update, and even integrate certain advanced or top-quality features.
Being outdated, these codebases lack important documentation, practices, and more, leading to complex problems. Hence, it is important to update these codebases on time.
Looking into HyperOS 3.1, sources noticed that Xiaomi is removing the MIUI SDK from the system modules like Weather and Photo Album. As a result, the upcoming version in August (probably) – HyperOS 4 can be the most stable upgrade yet!

Xiaomi could adopt the “zero legacy” strategy for the HyperOS 4.0 update by eliminating the residual code that has existed since the MIUI 1 version.
Further inputs suggest that Xiaomi may rewrite the core system app codes via Google’s Flutter toolkit and Rust. Thus, the standard UI and stability in HyperOS 4.0 will be more enhanced and interactive for Xiaomi users.
Bad news is that this change will appear only for the upcoming versions and may not be transferable to HyperOS 3 and other devices. Let’s see how Xiaomi will make things better with its new software upgrade.
