Apple plans to make the iPhone and Huawei watch syncing process easier than ever. The US technology giant is working on two major upgrades for its handsets to enhance their pairing with third-party smartwatches like Huawei, Garmin, and more.
Certain Garmin smartwatch owners noticed that their wearables are now connecting with Apple iPhones even when the main Garmin Connect app is not active!
The same treatment was observed by some Huawei users while syncing the watch with Apple iPhone models. They reported that the wearable can now sync in the background on iPhone, without the need to open the dedicated watch app.
Notably, this change is currently live in Europe. The Digital Markets Act has revised its rules, forcing companies like Apple to open their systems to more brands.
Hence, Apple has to improve its iOS functioning, specifically for how it connects third-party devices like Huawei and Garmin smartwatches and exchanges data.
With respect to these changes, Huawei and Garmin watches are seemingly getting a free pass to connect with iPhones, even if the corresponding app isn’t running in the background. Users will be able to continue tracking data without losing it.
Up to this point, only Apple Watch used to work seamlessly with iPhones. But the latest regulations are changing this aspect at least for users living in the EU. The European Commission said that the situation will improve for third-party smartwatches with the upcoming iOS 26.3 update.
Apple will likely introduce a new feature – Notification Forwarding that will enable prompts to easily show up on an accessory product like a watch or smart band.
What else Apple will bring with the upcoming update is currently unclear. Though it’s good news for all those Huawei smartwatch users that owns an iPhone and face difficulties while pairing the devices.
