Huawei Nova 15 series gained a lot of traction in the market for its iconic camera features, but something that should get equal attention is its most powerful battery technology. And the company has now explained this tech component.
CTO of Huawei Consumer Business Group Unit – Li Xiaolong revealed the secrets behind the Nova 15 series battery technology. He explained a few major aspects that enhance the cell capacity of the newly released sub-flagship phones.
The executive said that the battery capacity mentioned on the handset’s product page is usually the nominal capacity. It signifies the total range from when the battery is fully charged to when it discharge completely to the final voltage.
Li took an interesting example to explain the theory of the battery pack. He said that the process of a smartphone battery going from empty to full is quite similar to filling a glass with water.

The voltage increases gradually from low to high. Here, the voltage is 2.8 or 2.5V. But when a smartphone is working, the final voltage could alter based on the operation.
Adding more, the executive said that the final or power-off voltage is very important. It’s just like putting a valve under a cup of water. The amount of water that flows out of the valve can be considered the actual usable battery capacity of the phone.
“If the power-off voltage becomes higher than the termination voltage, the battery capacity of the phone can’t be released completely.” – said Li Xiaolong.
Note: The Power-off voltage means cut-off voltage, which is the minimum voltage a battery reaches where it stops supplying power to protect itself from damage. Whereas, termination voltage means the specific voltage level at which discharge halts to preserve the battery health of the device.
Smartphones Battery Life
Li mentioned that Huawei has developed several battery solutions for its devices. Devices that can deal only with low voltage are directly powered by the battery via a low-voltage channel.
Meanwhile, those high-voltage devices that require high voltage operation when the battery voltage is low, a power pump boosts the voltage.

Nova 15 series Battery
Speaking of the Huawei Nova 15 battery, Li stated that the core method is to decrease the shutdown voltage, and hence, fully release the capacity at the bottom of the silicon anode battery cup.
According to Li, the battery capacity release rate is the ratio of usable capacity to nominal capacity. The chief said that Huawei has been using silicon anode batteries for the past couple of years.
It has developed such components that can easily operate at low voltage in advance and reduce obstacles to release back-end power from the device side. Concluding the details, Li Xiaolong said:
“Huawei did not adopt the simplistic approach of maximizing battery capacity, but rather used a solution that balances battery life with a comfortable grip.”
