Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max has recently gone through a teardown by a Weibo tipster. The dismantling activity revealed details about the phone’s internal design and components, particularly its motherboard integration and the back cover material.
Mate 80 Pro Max has debuted with some interesting upgrades over the Pro+ model, and one of these is the infinite-like design, which reflects the device’s extreme tech capabilities.
Besides, it’s the industry’s first phone to feature an all-metal body, offering a durable architecture against external threats like high drops, water spills, and corrosion.
The tipster unravels the Huawei Mate 80 Pro Max design and internal specs + components during the teardown. Starting with the back look, the OEM has not only used an all-metal body for the flagship phone but also a special crafting strategy.
As per the tipster, Mate 80 Pro Max uses a single piece of CNC-machined aluminum alloy. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) is basically a computer program that guides automated tools to remove or apply material to a workpiece accurately.
CNC-machined aluminum alloy is a component designed by using computer-controlled equipment and subtractive processes to precisely cut and shape aluminum alloys.

It also allows the production of intricate, high-precision parts with specific tolerances from a block of aluminum using a digitally developed layout.
Huawei has used this particular technology to craft the new Mate 80 Pro Max. It has integrated clips instead of adding them separately in the later stages of a conventional solution. Thus, the process has improved the device’s durability.
Further, the dual-ring design on the back might appear as a single piece. But the company has used two different round holes to ensure proper wireless charging mechanics.
The tipster says that the Huawei team might have encountered challenges in building this type of design. These rings are a fusion of aluminum alloy and fiberglass to enhance the overall strength of the device’s body.
Speaking of the motherboard, Huawei has used top-class components for the device’s motherboard. It packs several components with no empty space. Even the camera module takes up a lot of space in the device.
Mate 80 Pro Max’s dual-zoom camera setup is bigger than the Pura 80 Ultra as well as offers smoother zoom switching with effective cost reduction in production.
