Honor mass producing 12000mAh batteries, 14000mAh in testing

Honor is developing two batteries – 12000mAh and 14000mAh for its future smartphones. While the company has just released its first 11000mAh cell pack-powered handset – X80 Pro Max, it is now testing even bigger batteries for upcoming creations.

As noted by DigitalChatStation, Honor is now up with more massive batteries – 12000mAh and 14000mAh. The first one has entered the mass production phase, while the company is still evaluating the second cell pack.

Both batteries are expected to pack 30% sillicon content. The silicon-based anode significantly increases energy storage capacity without making the device bulkier.

Silicon is considered one of the best sources of energy. It can hold up to 10 times more lithium ions than standard graphite. Simply put, it can pack more power into a smaller physical space and elevates the overall power density by 6% over traditional cells.

Honor currently uses 10% to 25% silicon content in its batteries based on the model and generation. But according to the latest leak, the company could increase the silicon content in the 12000mAh and 14000mAh cell packs up to 30%.

Early reports also suggest that the Chinese tech giant is working on a Blade Battery concept that can bring up to 32% silicon content for future flagship smartphones.

If the current leak points are correct, then Honor could once again set a new record for battery capacity in the smartphone industry. Many phones still rely on a 5000mAh cell. However, the Chinese OEM will likely break this outdated idea with its iconic 12000mAh and 14000mAh batteries.

Honor has interesting phones in the pipeline for this year. Three of these are ROBOT PHONE, WIN 2 series, and the Magic 9 series. What surprises these models bring regarding the battery segment is worth looking at. Stay tuned.
