Huawei might take the decision for the Mate X8 foldable’s launch delay this year, in favor of the Mate 90 series flagship. While the company used to unveil both the top-tier smartphones together in the market, it may changes it strategy in 2026.
Weibo tipster @FixedFocus reported that Huawei could delay the launch of the Mate X8 book-type foldable. The company may introduce the Mate 90 handsets alongside the next-generation triple-folding device.
Now that’s an odd theory.
For the past couple of years, Huawei has been launching the regular and the horizontal folding Mate phones together in November, powering them with a new Kirin chip.
But in 2026, rumors claimed that the Mate 90 series is coming early, most likely in September. Following these inputs, netizens questioned how the firm will manage, as September has been locked for the tri-fold release for the past two years.
Looks like the latest leak has the answer to the dilemma. Perhaps Huawei will launch the Mate XT 2 triple foldable and the Mate 90 phones together in September.

Meanwhile, the Mate X8 handset launch will be delayed. The tipster has not reported the release timeline for the dual foldable. Though we find more info in the future.
Reasons behind this delay could be the “early launch of Mate 90”. While the company has been unveiling the performance flagship models almost by the end of the year, it is trying to regain its previous launch rhythm, at least for the regular mobiles.
Huawei Mate X8 is also said to undergo major adjustments in design, chip, hinge, and battery. Hence, these things will take time to implement on the foldable phone.
Note that Huawei hasn’t confirmed any launch timelines or such changes for its upcoming creations. Therefore, let’s take this input with a grain of salt at the moment and wait for more revelations on this matter.
