Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-foldable could adopt wider U-shaped design

Huawei is working on the new-gen Mate XT 2 tri-fold, and the device could undergo major design changes, adopting a compact, wider layout. The handset is rumored to feature a different form factor that will increase its usability in many aspects.

SuperDimensional noted that the Huawei Mate XT 2 triple-foldable won’t look similar to the Mate X8 dual-fold smartphone and will bring a wider design profile.

The previous two generations of tri-folds resemble the Mate X dual-folding phone appearance. They have the same slim cutout for the first folding panel and a giant octagonal camera module, complemented by golden strips all over the back.

But the company is planning to ditch this concept for the 2026 tri-fold. It will carve the new Mate XT 2 model into a different form factor that will set it apart from the upcoming Mate X8 flagship. In addition, it could be more compact than before.

U-shaped layout will further contribute to the device’s durability. While the G look often generates concern over the screen’s protection, the U-based folding will flip the side panels over the center one to solve the weakness of the exposed inner screen.

Adding more, the tipster said that the Mate XT 2 will feature the world’s first LogicFolding Architecture-based Kirin chipset. The processor will deliver a comprehensive performance to the device, enhancing the overall efficiency.

Early inputs suggested that Huawei will launch the ultimate mobile SoC of this year with the Mate 90 series. But rumors claim that the 2026 tri-fold and Mate flagship are launching together in September, delaying the Mate X8 official unveiling.

Huawei will also use upgraded imaging capabilities for the new triple folding phone. Though how it will launch these top-tier creations is worth looking at!
