Huawei Pura 90 Pro smartphones equip a new mobile chip named Kirin 9030S, which brings significant changes and improvements over previous versions. While the core configuration is still under wraps, here are the major upgrades of this SoC.
During the Pura 90 series launch event held on April 20, Huawei revealed that the Pro models of this smartphone lineup are running on the Kirin 9030S chip.
Early leaks and rumors speculated that the top-tier variants may use the Mate 80 Pro‘s processor. The company has done the same with the Pura 80 Pro and Ultra.
Thus, a similar result was expected for the Pura 90 series as well. However, this time the company introduced an optimized chip – Kirin 9030S, which seems slightly inferior to the main versions (Kirin 9030 series), but offers major improvements.
As per the official details, the Kirin 9030S improves performance by 25% over the Pura 80 series. The chipset unlocks 21% improved app launches, 21% improved page loading speed, 31% improved content loading, and 43% efficient task switching.

Coming to the game section, Kirin 9030S makes the new smartphone offer a 30% improvement in frame rate stability for games like Honor of Kings. It further optimizes the gaming efficiency and daily user experience.
Kirin 9030S contains a new NPU with 200% of improved image understanding capability. As a result, the AI color engine provides 43% improved image processing.
In addition, the processor is responsible for increasing telephoto video clarity by 110% and enhancing telephoto anti-shake accuracy by 30%. The CPU and GPU are still a hidden part of this chip. Though we may grab the details as soon as the devices are available for sale.
