Honor Magic 9 series is cooking something big in terms of design upgrades. Rumors have it that the 2026 Magic flagship will introduce a new appearance with incredible changes! Is it the back camera module or the front face of the phone? Let’s check out!
In the past couple of years, Honor Magic phones have used a similar look – no big change in the camera module or on the front screen. The OEM was trying to enhance its AI services, making the flagship a true AI phone companion for users.
But in this attempt, the company has only upgraded the color schemes of the Magic series. Another change is visible in the lens arrangement of the camera bump.
It seems Honor is now up with big design upgrades for the Magic 9 series. The lineup is in the works and is reportedly testing a new makeover for the front face!
Though that could be bad news for some users!
Recent leaks suggested that Honor is planning to abandon the pill-shaped cutout from the front face of the Magic 9 series. If true, that raises two big questions:
Firstly, why does the company want to ditch this cutout after using it for years? The pill-like structure on the screen has become a signature touch of Honor on the high-end Magic phone variants like the Pro model.
Honor introduced the pill-like layout on the screen with the V30 models. At that time, the pill used to be placed at the top-left corner. Then Magic 6 Pro launched in the market, shifting the pill-shaped cutout to the center.

Following this change, Honor has continued the center-placed pill cutout for the Magic 7 and the Magic 8 Pro models. And the elimination could break the hearts of those who love the respective layout at the top of the display.
Secondly, if Honor will really eliminate this cutout from the screen, will it adopt a Huawei-like three punch hole design for its flagships? As that will be the only option for the tech giant to house a 3D facial recognition setup and a camera sensor on the screen, since the notch look is quite outdated.
Honor hasn’t commented on this matter yet. Though the leaks suggesting this change have ignited a new discussion among consumers. It would be worth seeing what Honor will really use for the Magic 9 screen as the replacement of pill layout.
