On February 13, Huawei announced that one of its ex-employees – Deng, who was the chief head of the Multimedia Technology Department, had been arrested on January 15 due to corruption charges. Let’s understand this matter in detail.
Deng was arrested by the Longgang District People’s Procuratorate. While the legal proceedings started last year in December, the judicial decision came this year.
As per the Huawei anti-corruption bulletin, the ex-chief of the multimedia technology department has been arrested, as he took advantage of his position of authority to secure improper benefits for certain suppliers.
It’s not the first time that Deng has caught in wrongdoing. The former Huawei employee has also worked at Honor Group and Meizu. During his tenure, Honor dismissed him for violating Business Conduct Guidelines.
Deng entered the Huawei premises in July 2007. He remained in the firm till December 2020 and played various roles in the Product departments. These roles are:
- Engineer in the Device Overall Technology Hardware Platform
- Senior Engineer in the Devices and Normalization Department
- Senior Engineer in Multimedia Technology Department
- Architect
- Manager in the Camera Department
- Head of the Multimedia Technology Department
In 2023, Deng joined Honor and became legal representative/Chairman of Shanghai Honor Wisdom Tech and R&D President. In May 2024, Honor issued an internal notice announcing the removal of Deng from his positions.
Honor didn’t reveal the exact reason behind the removal. But it confirmed the dismissal and “de-naming” of Deng from the company. Later, a new case appeared in late 2025, when the Longgang District People’s Procuratorate of Shenzhen city suspected Deng of accepting bribes as a non-state employee.
In simple words, the person was seeking improper benefits for suppliers and accepting bribes of a huge amount. He was criminally detained on this case and arrested by January 15 with the approval of the judiciary.
