Apple has time to launch its 2026 flagship but the news regarding iPhone 18 sales units has already started surfacing on the internet. It seems the upcoming lineup will ship around 20% fewer models than the previous-generation handsets.
ETNews reported that Apple iPhone 18 series sales units can drop by 20% compared to its predecessor. And there is a very interesting reason behind this decline.
Well, this may happen due to the shift in the launch of the standard and iPhone 18 Air models. Inputs reveal that Apple will unveil these handsets in H1 2027.
The iPhone maker is taking this approach to gather better attention on the high-value-added products like iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and its first-ever foldable.
Since the standard iPhone 18 and Air models are slightly cheaper than the Pro ones, the company is trying to make good revenue from the high-end variants, while saving the other ones for the first half of the next year.
Based on this “speculated planning”, the report reveals that the US firm has decreased the OLED panels for the iPhone 18 series compared to the iPhone 17 models.
One of the industry insiders said that Samsung will produce nearly 60 million OLED units for the iPhone 18 Pro/Pro Max and the iPhone Fold. Meanwhile, LG is prepping 40 million units for the Pro and Pro Max.
That’s a clear decrease of 20% compared to the last year, which was 80 million (Samsung) and 45 million (LG) displays. Another insider added:
“It is true that iPhone 18 series shipments this year will be lower than the previous model due to the reduced number of models release. The total annual iPhone shipment plan, including the previous model, is still ste at last year’s level, and the so-called performance driving products are coming out as planned, so we will have to wait and see what impact they will have.”
