When we say tri-fold, Huawei Mate XT is the first thing that comes to our mind, but it looks like the company is trying to reshape this image with an all-new vertical triple-foldable phone. Instead of a book-style tri-folding setup, the OEM is seemingly looking forward to a compact version.
A newly published Huawei patent (via – xleaks7 x PostFast) sheds light on a new “design concept” for triple foldable phones – a vertical layout. The device follows an S-shaped fold mechanism that turns it into a compact, pocketable handset.
Following the success of Mate XT, Huawei is now up with another incredible form factor.
The patent highlights that the new clamshell product can fold twice, unlike many other existing flip-flop models. It can become much smaller in the closed format.
Opening the device can turn it into a regular smartphone with a thinner and elongated body. It appears more like an ultra-long remote in the patent image. Instead of two cameras on the front face, it shows a single punch-hole design at the top.

Details reveal that the company will implement an optimized structural layer to the device that will allow the antenna and other internal components to work efficiently and reduce signal loss, irrespective of the thin design or compact folding.
Huawei could name this device “Pura X TriFold” – based on its design as well as the previously launched phones. But there is no official confirmation on this matter.
The patent further highlights points like flexible display, middle frame, sub-frames, some antenna parts, and shielding layers. Notably, it will use an S-shaped format.
It is worth mentioning that the new form factor is still in the application and not on the desk. Hence, it is unclear if the device will actually turn out to be a reality in the future.
