Huawei has once again rolled out an improved AR Measurement app for its users. While the application was absent from HarmonyOS 5 and 6 build versions, the company has added it again, starting with the Mate 80 series, featuring more enhancements.
AR Measurement has been a significant tool in Huawei devices that used to measure length, area, volume, and human height without a physical tape or equipment.
The AR Measurement relies on augmented reality and ToF (Time of Flight) camera sensors to estimate dimensions. It operates by scanning the environment and allows users to place points in the viewfinder to calculate the particular metrics.
But recently, a tipster suggested that Huawei has upgraded the useful AR Measurement app since the Mate 60 launch. The technical solution now uses the principle of binocular ranging, calculating the target distance via parallax of multiple cameras.
Binocular principle ensures a better upper limit than the old ordinary laser ranging. Thus, using this algorithm appropriately can enhance the overall app experience.
Since many models have different camera setups, the company is taking time to adapt and tune the app for every model one by one. Perhaps more models will gradually get the improved application in the future.
Inputs reveal that the AR Measurement app was missing from Huawei devices in the HarmonyOS 5 and 6 versions. Though the company has brought it back with the latest software build. Mate 80 was the first lineup to grab this feature.
Eventually, devices running on HarmonyOS 6 will get back the prominent app soon. Users with phones or tablets on HarmonyOS 6.0.0.328 version can access the app in Settings > Apps and Meta Services > Restore Apps.
Phones like the Mate 80 series, Pura 80, and the Mate 70 Air have received the new app. Other models will get the improved version after installing the latest update.
