HarmonyOS 7 will be optimized for Tau’s Law Kirin chipsets: Report

Huawei’s next-generation Kirin 5G chipsets for the Mate 90 will be more powerful than the 2025 versions, shifting away from the Moore Law to Tau’s Scaling Law, and it looks like the HarmonyOS 7 upgrade will also move in the same direction.

Weibo leaker @FixedFocus revealed that Huawei will optimize HarmonyOS 7 for the upcoming Kirin chipsets based on Tau’s Law. This move will further boost the device’s performance, bringing more operational efficiency.

The tipster adds that Huawei HarmonyOS 7 will implement new scheduling mechanisms in favor of Tau’s Law. Hence, the device will offer a seamless + smooth experience.

A Scheduling mechanism is generally the logic or algorithm used to assign computational resources like CPU, memory, or network to perform tasks in the handset.

It states which process runs when, manages multitasking, optimizes system performance, and ensures that a task finishes on time. Scheduling occurs at different levels in the software stack, from lightning-fast microscopic tasks at the hardware level to macro-level operation management.

Unlike other phone brands that rely completely on the mobile chip for the device’s performance, Huawei uses both hardware and software to make its devices efficient.

The company has confirmed that the 2026 Kirin chips will be based on the Tau Scaling Law, taking the performance and operational smoothness of the Mate 90 series to a new level. Now, it is optimizing HarmonyOS 7 to match these processors.

Perhaps we will find out tomorrow what major changes the new HarmonyOS software version can bring to draw level with Mate 90 Kirin chips. Stay tuned.
