Huawei Pura 90s series has stepped into the overseas market with various surprises in terms of camera, chip performance, and beauty, though the biggest one among these is the “return of a 5G Huawei global flagship phone” after many years.
This week is quite special as the Pura 90s lineup has reached outside China with not only EMUI 16 but also the tag of the first Huawei 5G global flagship phone since 2019.
Perhaps the ‘s’ at the back of the name hints that the Pura 90 global version is really “Special”. The top-end models will support 5G connectivity, providing over 1100Mbps downlink rate and a significant pace for uploading files.
Mate 40 Pro was the last Huawei device with 5G capability. It made its way to the global stage in 2021 before the US could completely restrict Huawei for 5G mobile chipsets and Google Mobile Services (GMS).
For the past five years, Huawei has been launching 4G phones in the global markets owing to US sanctions. The Chinese tech giant has been relying on Snapdragon processors for its home-grown and overseas devices.
While Huawei brought back its 5G Kirin chipset to phones and tablets in 2023, it was exclusive to China at that time. Devices like the Pura 70, Pura 80, and Mate 80 Pro do have 5G processors but lack 5G connectivity.
Here’s the key difference in SIM cards between Pura 80 Ultra and Pura 90s Pro Max:
- Pura 80 Ultra: 4G LTE FDD, 4G LTE TDD, 3G WCDMA, 2G GSM
- Pura 90s Pro Max: 5G NR (n1/n2/n3/n5/n7/n8/n12/n20/n26/n28/n38/n40/n41/n48/n66/n71/n77/n78/n79/n80/n81/n83/n84), 4G LTE FDD, 4G LTE TDD, 3G WCDMA, 2G GSM.
It is clear that Huawei devices launched before the Pura 90s Pro Max feature only 4G LTE connectivity. But the company has now officially returned to the global 5G segment. It would be amazing to see how this change will impact the firm’s position.
