Huawei will launch its LogicFolding-based Kirin chip this year, and the Mate 90 Pro Max could be the first flagship smartphone to feature the new mobile SoC. A new leak sheds light on the company’s “chipset strategy” for the 2026 Mate models.
Weibo tipster @FixedFocus said that the first Huawei model to use the LogicFolding Kirin 5G chip can be the Mate 90 Pro Max. That hints the OEM may use the new SoC only for the top-end variants, while keeping things simple for other members.
Following the latest leak, another tipster in the comments section revealed the possible Kirin 5G chips Huawei can use for different Mate 90 series versions.
Just like last year, the Chinese tech giant could launch two new Kirin chipsets – standard and Pro. Meanwhile, the firm has showcased a new SoC version with the Pura 90 Pro series – the 9030s. And it will likely follow the same rule for Mate 90 phones.
Mate 80 vanilla version may use the Kirin 9050s, which could be superior to the 9030 Pro chipset. The Pro smartphone variant can debut with the Kirin 9050, while the other high-end models like the Pro Max and RS Ultimate can equip 9050 Pro.

Adding details for the foldable phones, the tipster suggested that Huawei will use the Kirin 9050 Pro for the Mate XT 2 tri-fold and Mate X8 dual-folding handset.
There is still no definite conclusion on the specific chip model for the Mate 90 series. Although the latest points align well with the previous-gen flagship Mate phones.
Mate 80 featured the Kirin 9020 chipset. On the other hand, the Mate 80 Pro showed up with the base 9030 processor, and the top-end models used the Kirin 9030 Pro.
Whether the latest leak fits with the official details for the Mate 90 chip, or the company has some other plans in this aspect, will become clear in the coming months.
