Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold is gaining attention well before launch due to design rumors, and new patent images show exactly what the company plans to upgrade this time. The patent also reveals certain shifts in the camera module of the triple fold.
Some tipsters have shared the patent images of the Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold on the Chinese social media platform, giving a clear glimpse of the new design idea.
Looking into the leaked shots, the patent reveals a completely inward-folding mechanism. Mate XT 2 has been rumored to ditch its original Z-like form factor for a U-shaped appearance to protect the internal displays from drops and scratches.
Both sides display panels of the Mate XT 2 gets closed on the main screen in the patent. It is somewhat similar to the Galaxy Z TriFold. But the difference lies in the folding sequence – just the opposite of Samsung’s creation.
Per the images, the Mate XT 2 folds the left side first and then the right side, encasing the entire body. And the best part of this new folding mechanism is that it brings an external display to the device, which was absent in the past two generations.

Although there’s a catch!
The patent belongs to 2023. Hence, it contains both accuracy and errors to an extent. The tipster says that the Mate XT 2 can bring significant changes in the overall appearance, rather than just playing a major part in the folding order.
Only “true” detail in the leaked patent is the Z-shaped fold mechanism. But other highlights like key features and internal parameters are still a secret.
Huawei Mate XT 2 triple foldable will likely go official by September this year alongside the Mate 90 series smartphones. In the meantime, we may find more interesting design changes and spec upgrades for the tri-fold.
