Huawei R&D investment is higher than that of Samsung. A new piece of information suggests that the Chinese tech giant has spent more amount in AI and semiconductor technologies research and development last year than the South Korean OEM.
As per the official R&D investment statistics, Huawei spent 192.3 billion yuan (42.4 trillion Korean won) last year. That’s about 5 trillion Korean won higher than Samsung R&D expenditure during the same period.
Reports suggest that Huawei has been spending 100+ billion Korean won on R&D every day, which is an extraordinary level of investment over other global brands.
Samsung was leading in the R&D investment in 2024 for memory chips as well as AI semiconductors. Although Huawei has rapidly expanded its spending in the R&D department over the past year in its AI tech solutions and chipset production.
This move has significantly widened the R&D investment gap between the two firms – Huawei and Samsung. Interestingly, R&D is somehow becoming a major foundation for the Chinese OEMs’ competitiveness in a complex global market.
Speaking of Huawei’s R&D segment regarding the personnel size, the firm has 114,000 full-time R&D personnel as of the end of 2025. That’s nearly equivalent to the total number of employees at the Samsung empire in the entire world.
Eventually, it appears as if Huawei’s research and development team itself is just enough to challenge the entire staff systems of several brands, such as Samsung.
During the 2025 annual financial report conference – Meng Wanzhou said that the company will continue to advance its large-scale R&D strategy for sustainable growth.
She added:
“Even if it requires certain sacrifices, the company will grow alongside the pioneers of the times. This is not merely a slogan, but a testament to Huawei’s unwavering commitment to securing a leading position in future technologies.”
