Huawei is preparing to enter the South Korean AI accelerator market in the fourth quarter of 2026 with its Ascend series chips and Atlas systems. The company has finalized (via @SemiconductorsX) distributor agreements and is now handling technical training, pricing, and localized marketing.
Huawei Korea is targeting a Q4 launch of the Ascend 950DT and 950PR models along with the Atlas 950 SuperPod computing platform. It is also considering tailored branding and strategies for the Korean market.
The Ascend series features Huawei’s proprietary neural processing units for AI workloads. The key models include the Ascend 910C, the 950PR that entered mass production in April 2026, and the 950DT optimized for training that is scheduled for Q4.
These chips incorporate Huawei’s own high-bandwidth memory technology and mark important progress for China’s semiconductor self-reliance under US export restrictions.

Huawei plans to offer both individual chips and full-scale systems. The Atlas 950 SuperPod can scale up to 8,192 Ascend chips for large AI infrastructure deployments.
Huawei will distribute the chips through partners, including SK Shieldus, chosen for their technical know-how and long-standing relationship. The company is positioning these products as a strong NVIDIA alternative, claiming the Ascend 950PR offers up to 2.87 times better inference performance than NVIDIA’s H20, at about one-fourth the price, while enabling large-scale AI clusters even when NVIDIA supply is tight.
Huawei has also enhanced compatibility with its own networking technologies to reduce dependency on the CUDA ecosystem. The Ascend 950PR is already deployed in systems like DeepSeek V4.
Adoption in Korea could face several hurdles, including local concerns over Chinese technology, high power consumption and heat issues, and a less mature software ecosystem compared to NVIDIA’s dominant platform.
This launch highlights Huawei’s growing push into global AI hardware markets. It will be interesting to see how South Korean companies respond, especially with strong demand for AI infrastructure.
