He Tingbo, the Director of Huawei Scientist Group and the President of its Semiconductor Business, believes that the new Tau Scaling Law is a new direction for the global chip industry and will soon be implemented in chip tech on an international level.
During an interview at People’s Daily – one of the media outlets in China, the host asked about the Tau Law benefits in the chip industry over the long-running Moore’s Law.
The executive revealed that the new principle aims to replace geometric shrinking with time shrinking for the evolution of semiconductors and electronic systems.
Also, Moore’s Law will start facing a physical limit within the next 10 years. It is thus important to switch to a different approach that can benefit both users and brands.
Following the answer, the interviewer questioned whether Huawei sees the Tau Law as a new direction for the global chip industry. In response, He Tingbo said:
“In the next 5 to 10 years, the semiconductor industry will encounter obstacles and will definitely seriously consider the Tau Law path. It took 10 years for Moore’s Law to be fully accepted by the industry after its inception. We are quite confident in the implementation and planning of Tau Law – more confident than at any time in the past 6 years.”
She further mentioned that some people might join us in three days to use as well as implement the Tau Law on their own tech products, while others may take three to five years – but the company welcomes both.
