After Huawei, Honor, and Samsung, even Apple is trying to jump into the 200MP camera pool for its future iPhone models. A credible tipster noted that the US tech giant has started evaluating a big imaging sensor, but will not use it anytime soon!
DigitalChatStation revealed that Apple is testing a new 200MP 1/1.12-inch main camera for the upcoming iPhone handsets. The sensor is similar to the OPPO’s latest flagship – Find X9 Ultra.
Inputs suggest that the new camera sensor is Sony LYTIA 901. It features 0.7µm pixels coupled with Quad-Quad Bayer Coding that improves light gathering and color reproduction. Debuted in late 2025, it aims to boost image quality for premium phones.
Note: Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) refers to an advanced imaging sensor pixel array technology used in high-resolution cameras. It arranges four adjacent 2 x 2 pixel blocks (16 pixels total) of the same color for high-res image quality.
The tipster further mentioned in the comments section that the 200MP is currently in the testing phase for the main camera part and not the other imaging segments.

Moreover, the leak says that Apple might officially release an iPhone with a 200MP camera in 2027. Nothing is finalized at the moment, and things may change later.
For now, the leak underlines that after preparations for an entry into the foldable market, Apple is now planning to step into the 200MP camera smartphone pool. However, the testing phase doesn’t always confirm an official release.
Many brands are testing not one but two 200MP cameras for their phones, and OPPO is one and probably the first of them. The company will unveil Find X9 Ultra with seemingly dual 200MP sensors, bringing a dynamic photography experience to users.
Let’s see if Apple will be able to make a way in this competition by next year.
