Huawei is seemingly returning to an old “three-model” approach with the upcoming Pura 90 series. While the flagship was expected to follow the same four-model family, the company might skip an Ultra as well as the Pro+ model in favor of a single Pro Max smartphone.
As noted by FixedFocus, the Huawei Pura 90 series will be a three-model family this time, with a new member – PRO MAX. The company will likely dump the Ultra and the Pro+ handsets from the lineup, probably due to a new sales strategy.
So, as per the leak, the Pura 90 lineup will bring these variants:
- Vanilla Version
- Pura 90 Pro
- Pura 90 Pro Max
While Huawei rebranded its P series in 2024 in terms of design, imaging capabilities, and many other aspects, it carried forward one thing yet – the three models.

Of course, these models have undergone major adjustments over time. To begin with, Huawei launched the P family in 2012 and upgraded it with new enhancements. This lineup made its debut with four models paired with certain spec changes.
Things changed with the P7 series when Huawei began launching three variants in the lineup, tagged with different names. But the first “Pro+” handset came into the light with the P40 family as the Premium Edition.
After a couple of years, Huawei once again twisted the name + concept for the P series. Instead of a Pro+, the company launched a special Art version with the P60 series in 2023. The OEM then said goodbye to its old P model and welcomed PURA.
Huawei Pura 70 series debuted with four models – Standard, Pro, Pro+, and Ultra. It continued the same approach for the Pura 80 series. But a big change in 2025 was the debut of a PRO MAX in the Mate 80 family. After its addition to the Enjoy segment, the firm is seemingly prepping to bring it to the Pura 90 series.
Whether Huawei really ditches the Ultra model this year or continues it with the Pura 90 series is worth looking at.
