Huawei is planning bigger-than-expected battery surprises for the Mate 90 series smartphones. The company seeded a 6000mAh cell pack to its Mate 80 models last year. Now the company can increase this capacity by around 1000 to 1500mAh.
As noted by Weibo tipster @SuperDimensional, the Huawei Mate 90 series could feature a 7000mAh or even bigger battery capacity. Now that seems to be a real upgrade.
For comparison, the high-end Mate 80 series variants run on a 6000mAh cell. Meanwhile, the standard and the Mate 80 Pro smartphones have a 5750mAh cell capacity.
But this year, the company is seemingly planning a 7000+mAh battery for the Mate 90 smartphones. Perhaps the vanilla and Pro models could rely on a 6500mAh cell pack, while the Pro Max and RS Ultimate Design variants can use a bigger battery.
Over the years, Huawei has significantly upgraded the battery capacity for its mobile phones. The first step of this change was the Pura 80 series with a 5700mAh cell.
Hereafter, the company continued to enhance the particular segment with every one of its smartphone lineup – from Enjoy series to Nova, and then top-tier models.

In the latest edition, the Pura 90 series made their way to the consumer stage with a 6000mAh battery. And this number may increase with the upcoming 2026 flagship.
Apart from the battery, the tipster mentioned that the standard Mate 90 and the Pro model can use a 200MP camera (probably the one featured with the Pura 90 Pro Max). Meanwhile, the high-end handsets could bring a 1-inch ultra-large 50MP lens.
These smartphones will be the first to run HarmonyOS 7.0 with on-device AI capabilities and an epic-level Kirin 9050 series chipset. You can check the new mobile chip information below.
