Huawei has used a giant 200MP camera in the Pura 90 Pro Max imaging system for the first time and the second chance could be with its upcoming tri-fold creation – the Mate XT 2. A new leak has shed light on the chip, lens, and battery details of the third triple foldable smartphone.
SuperDimensional revealed that the Huawei Mate XT 2 tri-fold and Mate 90 series will debut in the second half of this year with a bigger battery as well as cutting-edge camera technologies.
According to the leak, Huawei could shift the launch timeline of the third-gen triple foldable this year. Instead of releasing it in September, it may debut in October.
Early inputs suggested that Huawei can unveil the Mate 90 series as soon as September, unlike the previous two generations. In that case, there are two possibilities:
- Mate XT 2 could debut in early September and Mate 90 later that month.
- Mate 90 could show up in September, while the Mate XT 2 will launch in October.
There is a lot of time to check which of these possibilities turns into reality. Till then, let’s check on the other specifications of the third-generation triple foldable phone.

As per the tipster, the Mate XT 2 might equip the Kirin 9050 chipset – the one expected to be used in Mate 90 models. On the other hand, the tri-fold could bring a 200MP camera. If true, this would be a big imaging breakthrough in Huawei’s history.
For the first time, Huawei used a 200MP camera in the Pura 90 Pro Max. And the Mate 90 series appeared to be the next in the queue, featuring a similar yet better sensor. However, something like that for a foldable would be incredible!
Up to this point, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and OPPO Find N6 models are the top foldable phones with a 200MP camera. But if the current leak turns out to be true, then the Mate XT 2 will be the first-ever TRIPLE FOLDING DEVICE with a 200MP sensor.
Apart from the camera, the new tri-fold can feature an improved battery pack. Perhaps the Mate XT 2 could bring even better upgrades over the previous-gen models.
