US approved Nvidia H200 AI chip sales for 10 Chinese firms

US has now given the green light to Nvidia H200 AI chip sales for up to 10 Chinese firms. While it might sound like good news to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, not a single H200 chipset has been sold in China yet, which is not really a great start!

Reuters reported that the US has approved the Nvidia H200 AI chip sales in China, starting with 10 Chinese firms. The headline appeared when the United States President – Donald Trump, made a trip to China along with the Nvidia CEO.

The initial 10 Chinese companies that can purchase the Nvidia H200 AI chip are Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance, JD.com, Lenovo Group, Foxconn, DeepSeek, Baidu, Meituan, and some other cloud-based companies + tech entities.

Inputs suggest that these buyers can either buy the H200 AI semiconductors directly from Nvidia or via intermediaries. Each firm can purchase up to 75000 chips.

However, things are going as smoothly as expected. It seems the US-China tech war has started affecting one of the largest global chipmakers – Nvidia’s AI chip business.

According to the details, no H200 deliveries have been made yet despite US approval for Chinese buyers to purchase the Nvidia H200 AI chipsets. It is so as the Beijing administration has tightened supply chain rules and scrutiny of foreign tech products.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick told the Senate last month:

“The Chinese central government has not let them, as of yet, buy the chips, because they’re trying to keep their investment focused on their own domestic industry.”

Ahead of US chip controls, Nvidia accounted for 95% of the Chinese AI chip market. But following the ongoing export controls, Huawei underscored the US chipmaker’s position in China. Besides, the Beijing administration decided to stop all those imports that can weaken its homegrown AI processors.

NVIDIA is looking for a breakthrough in its AI chip business under China’s roof. However, things appear quite difficult at the moment. Hence, whether these challenges for Nvidia will solve later is worth looking at.
